The Carolinas-Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc. provides support for minority owned businesses, develops mutually beneficial networking opportunities with corporate members, and promotes minority business development. As part of our on going effort to realize our mission and celebrate the successes, the Carolinas-Virginia MSDC Annual Award dinner serves as an opportunity to give special recognition to Corporate Members. An award will be presented at the Annual Awards Dinner to one or more Corporate Member(s) based on nominations from certified MBE’s.

The Council’s Awards Committee will evaluate the nominees. The criteria for judging will be based on mentorship, active pursuit of opportunity creation, community awareness/involvement, and the volume of business currently conducted with Carolinas-Virginia MSDC MBE’s. 

By signing you indicate you understand that more than one company may be nominated and that the individual has met the criteria for nomination (i.e., are an active and current local dues paying Carolinas-Virginia MSDC Corporate Member).

Competition Rules:


• Age 25 or younger
• Enrolled in high school or college
• Has new or current business idea (Incubator ideas are encouraged)
• Submit 5 minutes or less video pitch by deadline in specified video format
• Submit 1-page business concept
• Create 30-45 second acceptance video to be used, if selected
• Submission due by Friday, June 30, 2023


No repeat submissions: Students must present new ideas not submitted in previous competitions

Guidelines for the CVMSDC Development Program Scholarships:


  

This application is for 2 scholarship programs:


1. Sonoco Leadership Academy is open to both CVMSDC &  GWBC members.


  • · The Sonoco Leadership program is a 12 month program with a combination of in person & conference calls
  • · You must be a certified MBE, subscriber with CVMSDC or certified with GWBC
  • · There must be a submitted certification application which is being processed that is favorable for certification approval
  • · The applicant must be the owner or principle of the minority business
  • · Upon completing this application CVMSDC & GWBC will select applicants for Sonoco Leadership program
  • · If you are chosen, you will receive correspondence stating which program you have been accepted to attend
  • · Candidates must be available to attend for the entire program
  • ·  There is a one-time non-refundable application fee of $95.00 which covers consideration for both programs. . (This fee includes credit card processing fees.)


2. University of Richmond Executive Management Program


  • · The University of Richmond Executive Management Program is a week long intensive program. Your hotel and most meals are covered. Each MBE will be responsible for travel.
  • · You must be a certified MBE or subscriber with CVMSDC 
  • · There must be a submitted certification application which is being processed that is favorable for certification approval
  • · The applicant must be the owner or principle of the minority business
  • · The CVMSDC Development Programs Committee will process your application 
  • · If you are chosen, you will receive correspondence stating which program you have been accepted to attend
  • · Candidates must be available to attend for the entire program
  • ·  There is a one-time non-refundable application fee of $95.00 which covers consideration for both programs. Corporate Partner Certification Grants

We understand that some MBEs are undergoing financial hardships at this time. As a result, CVMSDC in partnership with several Corporate Partners currently has certification grants available for eligible MBEs. MBEs must meet our certification guidelines to be eligible. Each grant will cover certification fees for 1 or 2 years.

Please note: Grants are for new MBE certifications, Renewal Certifications, and Subscriptions. Grant request are for 1 or 2 years.

  • Buyer of the Year -The candidate has made significant contributions to the advancement of supplier diversity in the following areas: Contributions to Purchasing, Contributions to Professional Development, Professional Certification, Contributions to CVMSDC, Doing business with CVMSDC certified MBEs, Attending and or participating in CVMSDC Events
  • Coordinator of the Year - The Carolinas-Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council (CVMSDC) recognizes with this award the individuals who have provided mentorship, active pursuit of opportunity creation, community awareness/involvement, and the volume of business currently conducted with Carolinas-Virginia MSDC MBE’s.

This recognition is made annually at the CVMSDC Business Opportunity Conference (BOC) by our corporate members to certified minority suppliers with Carolinas-Virginia MSDC who have distinguished themselves and their businesses by:

  • Successfully demonstrating growth in sales and employment while overcoming significant obstacles,
  • Consistently providing high quality products and services at competitive prices, offering innovative approaches, and cost-saving ideas,
  • Continuously growing MBE to MBE purchases, 
  • Helping to improve the quality of activities and services provided by the Regional Council, and 
  • Significantly contributing to the growth and development of society and their community

CVMSDC corporate members nominate one CVMSDC certified MBE in each of the following four categories based on the MBEs annual sales:
              Class 1                   Annual sales less than $1 million
              Class 2                  Annual sales between $1 million and $10 million
              Class 3                  Annual sales between $10 million and $50 million
              Class 4                  Annual sales greater than $50 million
Corporate members that would like to nominate MBEs must do the following:

  • Complete the SOY Nomination Form 
  • Attach a letter of recommendation to the SOY Nomination Form for each MBE nominated,
  • Submit the SOY Nomination Form and letter of recommendation by Sunday, June 30, 2024.

MBE2MBE Impact Awards

When it comes to working with small and minority businesses it is no secret that vision, hard work, and outcomes must be driving forces to achieve greatness. The MBE2MBE Impact Award is awarded to the MBE who has demonstrated the ability to effectively partner, enhance minorities spend, collaborate strategically, and promote engagement with the CVMSDC. This speaks to the council’s core mission and overall arching goals. In addition, this awardee must be certified as an MBE, active within their ring, attend signature events, and support the overall needs of minority businesses and the counsel. An award will be presented at the annual meeting reception to the MBE based on nominations from fellow MBE’s. The MBEIC values and appreciates the contributions of all CVMSDC MBE members.

1. The participant must be a certified MBE.

2. The participant must be in good standing with the Council.  

3. The MBE’s must have completed collaborative experiences with other MBE’s.

4. Participants must be active within their RING.    

5. MBEs may self-nominate
